STEVE SCHAPIRO
Steve Schapiro is a widely acclaimed photographer whose work has been seen regularly in major magazines around the world. In addition to his documentary photographs from the 1960s, Schapiro has worked on numerous and diverse commercial assignments. Schapiro traveled extensively throughout the United States for Life magazine and other important magazines during the 1950’s, covering photo essays on civil rights, Haight-Ashbury, the Robert Kennedy campaign, Andy Warhol, Muhammad Ali, and “everything from poodles to Presidents.” His stills for “The Godfather”, “Taxi Driver” and “Chinatown”, posters for “Midnight Cowboy”, “Billy Madison”, “Parenthood” and “101 Dalmatians”, as well as album covers for “Streisand-Supreme” and “The Way We Were”, are among some of his most famous works. He is represented in the Kodak Rock Photography Collection, and was exhibited in Las Vegas in 2003. His book, American Edge (Arena Editions, 2000), contains his view of the spirit of the 1960’s in America.
